Maud the narrator is unreliable due to her dementia which seems to worsen through the story but is the most delightfully sweet character.
At first Mauds disintegrating memory stymies her progress but soon enough the elision of boundaries becomes an asset. And then Maud finds the note again and the cycle re-starts. Whatever it takes I suppose.
